Whether we like it or not, we gotta admit: the sneaker industry isn’t the same after Ye left. But well, it looks like he’s back at it with some interesting concepts. And is it really Kanye if he doesn’t pull an interesting stunt with Yeezy Season 10? Obviously, May 2023 started with a band for Yeezy fans. From a casting call to a pretty shady and secret show, Ye’s once again the controversial fashion influencer we know! Here’s everything that went down to keep you in the dramatic Ye loop.
If you’re reading this, then you’re definitely familiar with all the controversial things Ye did in the past. In fact, he got so offensive that even Adidas couldn’t disregard that and ended their partnership. That led to major financial loss for the brand, and a lawsuit lately. But everyone knows that they wouldn’t have let him go if the backlash died down. Unfortunately for the German brand, it didn’t.
Anyway, following all that drama and Ye’s public outbursts on social media, he dipped. Suddenly, we got the news that Ye tied the knot, and could be working on new stuff. Yeezy Mafia came back to social media, and everyone felt that excitement bubble just below the surface! All that was all and well, and then April 2023 rolled around with exciting news for all Yeezy fans.
As we already mentioned, Yeezy fans were in for a surprise when Yeezy Mafia tweeted a casting call for Yeezy. The casting call was for models with shaved heads. Odd, but not too odd for Ye. Anyway, fast forward to May 1, 2023, and we got the answers we wanted.
Ye hosted a Yeezy Season 10 secret show that he called YZY FREE. That’s clearly a dig at the Adidas Yeezy breakup and the brand flying solo now. And well, call him petty, by Ye hosted that show next door to an Adidas store on Melrose Avenue, LA. It’s still a mystery whether this will become a Yeezy retail store or just an exhibition venue. Time will tell. In the meantime, let’s break down what went down during this “secret show”.
According to attendees and leaks, the show didn’t include any actual apparel. The models all donned a skin-tight white t-shirts with black pants (if any). They also wore all kinds of kicks that ranged from high heels to Air Jordans. At the end of the show, the models distributed their white shirts to the attendees for free. And ironically, some people are trying to flip the tee for hundreds of dollars!
