Women Sneakerheads – Changing the Industry a Lady at a Time

The sneaker industry definitely changed dramatically from what it was pre-2000s. It was mainly dominated by men and by basketball enthusiasts. Naturally, women sneakerheads were near inexistent during that time. Or maybe they were, but they didn’t get the exposure they deserved. Fun fact: The WNBA was founded in 1996, 50 years after the NBA. But with ladies officially getting into sports, industries started catering to them. So now, years later, the sneaker industry has a solid number of women in it! That’s why we’re gonna take a look at five women sneakerheads that are influencers and trendsetters.

5 Women Sneakerheads to Follow Today!

As we already mentioned, the industry didn’t include many women. However, now that we’re in 2023, sneakers are available for both men and women. In fact, there are some drops that are women-exclusives, much to the men’s chagrin, right? Just kidding, but anyway, here are some women sneakerheads that are changing the industry, one fit at a time!

Aleali May

We’ll start our list with a name that everyone in the industry is probably very familiar with. Aleali May is a model, stylist, sneakerhead, and sneaker designer! In fact, she’s one of the only two women who got to design Nike and Jordan sneakers. And well, let’s just say that she delivered every time. So if you’re looking for women sneakerheads to give you some solid inspiration, Aleali May is the one you need.

The Chicks with Kicks

Out of all five women sneakerheads on this list, these are the hardcore collectors. If you’re looking for inspiration to start a sneaker collection, these sisters are it. With more than 6,000 sneakers in their arsenal, the Peters sisters certainly earned flexing rights. However, their collection is more than just sneakers. In fact, it extends to streetwear, accessories, and exclusive samples. Oh, and they do sell some of their items, so make sure you keep an eye out for offers.

Kayce Kirihara

Kirihara, aka @infamouskayce, is more than what her green hair lets on! In addition to being a dope Instagram personality, she’s an NBA, WNBA, and NFL host. She was also a college basketball player, so she’s a certified sports enthusiast. But well, if you’re into basketball, odds are you’re also into kicks! So make sure you follow her if you’re looking for some awesome inspo.

Megan Ann Wilson

Aka @shegotgame is another awesome addition to our list of women sneakerheads. Why? Because in addition to her passion for kicks, she’s got a podcast and she designs! Moreover, she works on the relationship between sneakers, sports, and sustainability. So you’ve got an eco-activist who knows what’s poppin’! Moreover, she has her own collection of sneakers with Nike. So you know that she got game when she got a Nike collab!

Sanne Poeze

You might have heard of her through her Instagram handle @girlonkicks. This mommy and sneakerhead went the extra mile and paid tribute to women in the industry! How? By co-writing the SheKicks book. In that book, they did a round-up of all the women in the industry and how they influenced it all. So if you’re not familiar with the book, we totally recommend it!
