The success of Virgil Abloh’s collaboration with Nike is unwaning as the releases unfold. Away from the classic renditions that we’ve grown accustomed to, an all-new colorway is dropping this June: the new Off White Air Jordan 1 UNC.
It’s clear that Nike is trying to maximize its investment in their most unique collaboration after that with Michael Jordan. And the collection may be even more valuable after Abloh became menswear artistic director at Louis Vuitton.
No one can discredit Abloh for being a hard-working creative and celebrated designer, but the question here is to what extent will sneakerheads be able to invest in this collab? Especially since it drifted far off course turning “The Ten” into The Hundred collection.
Our hypebeast mindset is this: We want something special, but if everyone is wearing Off-White Nikes, why should we wear them too?
There’s been confusion over which blue this model comes with. For a time, rumors were saying that the upcoming Off-White Air Jordan 1 colorway will drop in a Dark Powder Blue. But according to the latest images, these sneakers will come covered in White, Cone, and UNC. This unconventional mix of colors dresses Abloh’s signature deconstructed uppers, all while staying true to the classic Air Jordan 1 silhouette and color blocking.
Whether you should try to cop this pair, or not, is completely up to you. But you should know that the previous Off-White Nike Air Jordan 1 released back in March is still making a large sum on the secondary market, reaching up to over $2500. So if you weigh it in terms of resale value, this pair is definitely a must-cop.
Release Date: June 9, 2018
Retail Price: $190
Color: White/Cone-University Blue
Style Code: AQ0818-148
Here’s the rule: the more the previous versions are worth, the more their successors are hyped. So if you like this shoe and you don’t want to cop from resale, do your best not to sleep on this release!
