Glitz, glam, cameras, reporters… The red carpet is always an exciting event for celebrities and fans alike. And one of the most important aspects of red carpet appearances is the fashion statements. Think of the Met Gala and how every year we wait for the looks. But while these appearances have historically been formal, the sneaker industry has something to say. You see, many celebrities decided to opt for comfort instead of the usual dress shoes or high heels. And this phenomenon is here to stay, so let’s check out some of our favorite sneaker red carpet moments!
Times When Sneakers Stole the Show on the Red Carpet!
Let’s face it, wearing a pair of kicks, which are considered lifestyle shoes at best, on the red carpet is a bold choice. However, some celebrities are famous for their bold choices in these events. Or, in other cases, they’re certified sneakerheads and their choice was 100% legit! Either way, we’re gonna check out a selection of times when the kicks were the moment on the red carpet. Oh, and they totally killed it on there.
Where Mars Blackmon and Spike Lee Meet
There’s a lot of debate when it comes to who had the biggest influence on the start of the sneaker culture. But one thing’s for sure, it’s that Spike Lee (and Mars Blackmon) is a legend when it comes to the sneaker scene. Created and played by Lee himself, the character went on to even star in a series of commercials with MJ himself.
In fact, the man is so iconic that he even has his own signature silhouette, the Jordan Spiz’ike! So, seeing Spike Lee in sneakers on the red carpet shouldn’t ever be a surprise. Our favorite instance though must be when he wore the Golden Jordan 3 to the 2019 Oscars! You can check out the full list here.
Seth Rogen Is Back to the Future
In a very bittersweet yet iconic moment, Seth Rogen and Michael J. Fox paid tribute to the classic Back to The Future! During the 89’s Academy Awards, the duo stepped out of the BTTF DeLorean to present an award. However, it’s what Rogen had on his feet that stole the moment! He wore none other than the Nike Air Mags, the kicks that Nike made for Back to the Future 2. So if that’s not a full circle moment, we don’t know what is.
Jason Sudeikis Wore the 11s Right
When Tinker Hatfield added patent leather to the Jordan 11, he knew what he was doing. That addition gave the kicks versatility enough to fit on both the court and in front of cameras. So, when Jason Sudeikis rocked the Jordan 11 Concord at the 2016 Golden Globes, it was a heck of a statement. And well, tuxedos and 11s are obviously a match made in heaven. So if you’re thinking about wearing these babies to a formal occasion like a graduation, go for it!
Kanye West Is the Godfather of Red Carpet Kicks
Okay, we took our time to get here because it’s the most obvious one! Whenever Kanye made an appearance in the 2010s, we knew that we’re gonna see some cool kicks. And well, it still kinda holds true today because of the solid fashion influence he has. From Nike Yeezys to Adidas Yeezys and beyond, the man certainly left a legacy when it comes to kicks. So, it’s only fair to end the list with him!
