It’s been more than a week since Adidas dropped Kanye, and people are still talking. What exactly are they talking about though? So, if you’re still not familiar with the story, we’re gonna highlight the main points. Ye’s famous for his controversial comments, but this time he crossed many lines, and s**t went down. He got a Twitter ban because of his anti-semitic tweet in addition to public backlash. And in his Drink Champs (now deleted) interview, he made several statements about different topics. In fact, his comment about George Floyd’s death will apparently land him a $250 million lawsuit.
Throughout this whole mess, Adidas didn’t drop Ye; they settled for putting the partnership “under review”. However, in the same interview, Kanye stated that he could say whatever he wants and Adidas won’t drop him. Now what? To his surprise, and everyone else, Adidas did actually drop him, and so did many other brands. Talk about the interview aging well.
We’re not joking when we say that the Adidas-Ye split hurts more than the KimYe split. And this split is financially taxing! In fact, according to Forbes, he lost his billionaire status because that partnership makes up $1.5 billion of his net worth. So that kinda leaves him at about $400 million, which is by no means poor. However, with his net worth taking a nosedive, he got dethroned from his #1 spot as the richest rapper by none other than Jay-Z! See what we did there?
Oh, and here’s a fun fact for you! Did you know that following his loss of fortune the fans decided to help? They started a GoFundMe to make him a billionaire again! Although different brands vetoed the rapper while social media canceled him, Ye’s probably gonna make a comeback. Whether they’ll reconcile once the heat dies down remains a mystery. But what we do know is that Kanye is a savvy businessman and fashion influencer. And let’s face it, at $400 million, he’s definitely not broke. So we’ll keep an eye out for whatever he has going on!
