We love a solid sneaker and movie mashup, we really do. And one of the people who had a big influence in that specific area was Spike Lee. The man is the perfect example of a sneakerhead through and through. Now the sneakers of choice for Lee are none other than Jordans. So, it made sense for the brand to immortalize this special relationship with a silhouette: the Spizike. And now, Spike Lee and JB will commemorate the 35th anniversary of ‘Do the Right Thing’. How? With the upcoming Jordan Spizike Do the Right Thing that will be very exclusive!
But First, a Quick Stop at the Jordan Spizike
It’s gotta be the shoes! Any sneakerhead worthy of their collection remembers the series of Nike commercials featuring Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon. However, this Jordan fixation is older than the ads and dates back to Lee’s works. So, to pay tribute to this sneakerhead, Jordan Brand created the hybrid Jordan Spizike! The word stands for the mashup of Spike and Mike as a nod to the ads. And this silhouette is also a mashup of the silhouettes that we associate with Spike Lee, the Jordans 3, 4, 5, 6, and 20! Now that we gave you a quick crash course on the silhouette, let’s check out today’s colorway.
Jordan Spizike Do the Right Thing Low – Sal’s Pizzeria Anyone?
35 years after tis debut, Do the Right Things remains a pop culture moment. In fact, Spike Lee himself helped shape the concept of sneakerheads as we know it today! So, to commemorate the anniversary of the movie, Jordan Brand, Spike Lee’s son Jackson, and artist Donisdope are giving us a new colorway.
The Jordan Spizike Do the Right Thing will feature a white upper with red and green details. And if the color blocking is familiar, you’re right. It’s a tribute to the “Sal’s Famous Pizzeria” t-shirt that Spike’s character Mookie wore in the movie! The kicks will also feature “DTRT35” on the side panel to celebrate the anniversary.
Release Info
We hate to say it, but only 100 pairs of the Jordan Spizike Do the Right Thing will be available. There will be embroidery on the inside of the collar of the number of the pair! Moreover, the kicks will come in a custom shoe box inspired by pizza boxes. That’s another obvious nod to the end of the movie. Unfortunately, these babies will most likely remain exclusive to friends and family. Don’t be sad though, there’s always a chance that some might get raffled or retroed later.
In the meantime, the sneaker industry has plenty to offer. And if you wanna take a look at what’s coming soon, our blog has everything you need to know! Who knows? You might get a lil inspiration and decide to get into sneaker reselling. Godspeed!
