Jordan 5 El Grito Pays Homage to Mexican Heritage with Flair

We love it when Jordan Brand pays homage to different cultures. And we love it more when this homage ends up with a solid colorway as a result! This time, we’re gonna head out to Mexico to celebrate heritage and a specific era in the country’s history. From a fight for freedom to the country’s diversity, there’s a lot to unpack here. So, let’s check out the upcoming Air Jordan 5 El Grito for the full story. And if you’re looking for more cool stories and kicks, our blog has plenty of those! Now, let’s dive into today’s interesting drop, shall we?

El Grito de Dolores – Culture, Vibes, and More

So today, we head out to Mexico to celebrate the opening of a Jordan Brand store! The flagship store opened on July 11, 2024, in Mexico City. And of course, there’s nothing better than a new shoe to commemorate the occasion. But you know, nothing adds more flair to this than a little historical tribute. So, what is the shoe’s theme all about? Well, you better be ready for a little history lesson!

On September 16, 1810, in Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico, el padre Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a speech. That speech ended up changing the course of history! He inspired the people to rebel against the Spanish monarchy and seek independence. Well, that ended up really happening, and September 16 became Mexico’s Independence Day. Hence, El Grito de Dolores became a moment that went down in history! And today, Jordan Brand is further immortalizing the occasion on a pair of sneakers.

Jordan 5 El Grito Is The Perfect Tribute!

At first glance, the Jordan 5 El Grito looks pretty simple in its sail leather upper. However, upon closer inspection, you will notice cool details like the embossing on the front and back! These details take inspiration from traditional Mexican patterns and we’re here for it. Moreover, the lace locks come in red and green as a nod to the Mexican flag. Finally, the kicks will feature a dubrae like the ones we see on the Air Force 1. However, these babies will feature the word “Viva” as a nod to Viva Mexico!

What You Should Know About Jordan 5 El Grito

We can expect Jordan 5 El Grito to hit Nike SNKRS and select retailers, including the Mexico flagship on September 7, 2024. That’s just in time to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day! The kicks will retail for the usual $225 but will definitely be worth it considering their value on the aftermarket! So, if you’re wondering how you can score a pair we got you.
