Today’s pair is a tribute to different legends in the game. We know how Nike was a huge catalyst in the growth of the sneaker industry. With amazing designers and different divisions, Nike made a good chunk of the sneaker history. And the Jordan 4 SB Pine Green unites two parts of the legacy despite being very different. So, read on to learn how basketball and skateboarding are co-related, and why we love the latest rendition of AJ4s!
Relationship Recap: Basketball and Skateboarding FTW!
70s – 80s
Let’s start our story from the beginning. Back in 1972, Nike introduced a basketball shoe: Nike Blazer. However, what started as a basketball shoe became a skater’s favorite! The reason behind that is that high-top blazers provided the ankle support, protection, and board feel that skaters need. Now, fast forward to 1987, and Jordan 1 took the title from the Nike Blazer! That’s partly thanks to the release of Jordan 2 and partly thanks to “The Search for Animal Chin”. That was a skateboarding video that featured five legendary skaters, including Tony Hawk!
90s
Now, the 90s weren’t kind to Nike’s attempt to break into the skateboarding community. The previous successes were accidental, and the community didn’t accept their direct attempt. They considered Nike to be trying to buy its way into the market. And it kinda was like that because there was no real effort in that venture. The sneakers were not up to the standards and that led to Nike pulling the line after a year of its release. However, that will all change with the new decade!
Y2K Era
2002 was the year when Nike managed to make it into the skateboarding market. It was a collective effort on many levels. From launching the Nike SB Division to recruiting influential figures for the design team, the swoosh was seriously pushing! And of course, 2002 marks another basketball connection because the kicks we got were the Nike SB Dunks. That was a rebirth of the 1985 basketball Dunks!
In addition to all that, Nike targeted the skateboarding community specifically in many ways. For example, they dropped the kicks exclusively at skate shops and added P-Rod to their star roster! And if you’re not familiar with Paul Rodriguez, he’s a big name in the skateboarding world. He made history when he became the first skater to get his own shoe! And well, the rest was history for the SB division.
Jordan 4 SB Pine Green – Continuing the Legacy!
Now that we got the connection out of the way, it’s time to discuss the kicks. The upcoming Jordan 4 SB Pine Green looks like your average pair of Jordan 4s, but it isn’t. How? Well, it’s been SB-fied with some cool details. For example, the tongue features extra padding, and the wings are sturdier than usual to be more responsive.
Meanwhile, the forefoot is Air-free because skaters need that board feels, and the heels feature the Nike SB branding. Now, as far as colorways go, Jordan 4 SB Pine Green features a white leather base with hits of pine green. And finally, the gum outsole adds a little pizzazz to the pair!
Release Info
Jordan 4 SB Pine Green will drop on March 17, 2023, at select skate shops, and March 21 on Nike SNKRS. Either way, the kicks will retail for $225, and they’ll be worth every penny. Why? Because you can get multiple pairs and flip them for $431 on average. Of course, you should keep a pair of Jordans to style and flex too. So how can you manage to do that?
