Who doesn’t like food? For real, food can cause mood changes! But you know what sneakerheads are constantly hungry for? Sneakers. So today, we’re gonna mix our two favorite things and check out the best food themed sneakers! After going through the music and movie industries, it just makes sense to do food. You know, food never goes out of style. But if you’re looking for another type of sneaker wrap (pun intended), here are 2022’s best kicks. Now, grab your plates, and let’s tuck in!
So this list will include only 10 collabs and releases. However, the industry is full of awesome releases like the ones we’re about to check out! There is no specific ranking system, because well, food preferences are subjective, right?
It’s not really food, but we gotta start with upcoming releases to catch you up! If you’re not following sneaker news, then that’s your sign to do so on our blog. And it seems like the Jarritos Dunks will be the perfect pair of sneakers for the foodies in 2023. You can check out everything we know about the collab right here!
We can’t talk about food themed sneakers without Concept and Nike taking center stage. The collection started back in 2008, with the 2000s being the golden age of the Nike SB Dunk collabs. The latest release was just back in December 2022. But if you wanna check out the whole collection, we got you covered right here!
We’re really not showing bias to Dunks, but Nike really outdid themselves in their food themed sneakers here. And although 2020 wasn’t an ideal year for sneakerheads, it really gave us some sick releases. But one of the highlights of the year was hands down the Ben & Jerry’s Dunks! Today, these babies are worth $1,000+, so if you managed to cop the kicks then, you’re a lucky one.
We already mentioned that the 2000s was the golden age of Dunks and collabs. And the Heineken Nike SB Dunk certainly fits the profile. In 2003, Nike and Heineken were going to drop a collaborative Nike SB Dunk. And although the collection never officially saw the light of day because of legal issues, we still got a few pairs in. PS: Did you hear about the Heineken 2.0 Dunks rumor?
Yup, not another Dunk! We’re moving to Nike’s archnemesis, Adidas. In August 2019, the three stripes went on to collaborate with Arizona Iced Tea. The collection included sneakers for $0.99 at pop-up stores. That kinda meant war for sneakerheads, and well… it did end up making it on our list of sneaker violence instances!
We just put this here for comic relief if nothing else despite having other options. But really, have you seen this collab? It’s epic and everything we’d expect from a fast food chain and Crocs if we’re honest. We love clogs though, so no shade there. This collab was made to look like KFC’s signature chicken bucket! However, the cherry on top was hands down the fried chicken Jibbitz charm.
New York-based chef David Chang and Nike came together in 2017 and gave us this underrated gem. The Momofuku Nike SB Dunk High is a nod to the chef’s famous Momofuku Noodle Bar. What became a culinary institute was where Chang got to meet skaters! So it kinda made sense for this great meeting of the two different types of expression. The kicks featured Momofuku’s signature peach, along with the numbers “163” and “207”. These two numbers are the addresses of both of Chang’s restaurants! You can read more about the kicks here.
Can we have M all? Ok, awful pun, but we all made one of these at some point while eating M&M’s. And the 2022 Adidas collab really gave us the Forum Lows in all flavors, not that we’re complaining. Sadly, the collection didn’t catch a lot of hype, although they’re cool collectibles in our humble opinion.
Although this is not a collaboration, the pair qualifies as food themed sneakers. The Street Hawker Dunk was a pretty solid release with its special packaging and backstory. These babies are a tribute to Asian cuisine, which is a pretty rich area to explore. If that sounds like something interesting to you, you can read more about it here.
If the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear Wasabi is the Annoying Orange, then join the club. Otherwise, it also made its way to our list with the last but not least collab! And again, Asian cuisine leaves its mark in the sneaker industry, as weird as that sounds. So if you’re a fan of sushi, sneakers, or just green, this 2018 pair should definitely be down your alley! Check this out if you wanna know more about it.
