Donkey Kong Air Max 1 – Video Games & Kicks Are a Yes!
Okay so, this is not the first time video games and sneakers come together for an awesome drop. Big brands like Adidas and Nike have collaborated with companies like Xbox and PlayStation over the years. But now, it’s time for a not-so-very-official Nintendo interjection! You see, Nike and the .SWOOSH project took inspiration from the Donkey Kong Country game. This was a game that originally launched on the Super Nintendo (SNES) console. So, unfortunately, this isn’t an “official” Nintendo collab.
Now, design-wise, the Donkey Kong Air Max 1 features a cream mesh base with brown hairy suede overlays. Meanwhile, the red and yellow swoosh is a nod to Donkey Kong’s red tie! The whole thing sits on top of a yellow midsole to complete the design. Cool additional touches include the coins on the insole that have DS on them for Dot Swoosh. This is cool because the original coins in the game read DK for Donkey Kong! Now, the official name of these kicks will be the Nike Air Max Big Head Origins.
