You didn’t think all the Adidas and Yeezy drama is over, did you? In fact, with Adidas dropping Kanye, so many questions went on in our heads. What will happen to the stock that already exists? Will Adidas scratch Yeezys once and for all? And so much more… However, the three stripes brand seems to have something else in mind. And when Adidas sells Yeezys without the branding, will people keep on buying? Let’s find out!
Adidas Sells Yeezys Without the Yeezy
At first, we were all kinda sad about the end of the Yeezy era. But that turned out to be the least of sneakerheads’ worries. Why? Because Adidas went out and announced that they’re gonna keep on releasing Yeezys, business as usual! However, since Ye owns the Yeezy trademark, they can’t use the Yeezy branding/logo. So what’s gonna happen in this case?
Naturally, Adidas will scratch the Yeezy from their Yeezys and probably rebrand the silhouettes into something else. And that’s not the first time this happens to be honest! Remember Kobe Bryant’s Adidas deal that gave us The Kobe? Well, Kobe eventually bought his way out of his Adidas contract (allegedly because of how ugly The Kobe 2 was). That didn’t stop the three stripes from making the most out of these kicks! They actually rebranded the kicks and dropped them under the name: Adidas Crazy 1.
Why Is Rebranding Yeezys Different?
First off, the Crazy 1 rebranding came a decent amount of time later! But when it comes to how and when Adidas sells Yeezys, it’s gonna be pretty soon. Apparently, Adidas has the right to drop kicks that their team designed and obviously previous silhouettes. Moreover, the Adidas CFO announced that Yeezys are their goods. They own the IP (intellectual property), designs, and colorways. And in his own words: “Interesting things will be coming to fruition in 2023.”
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that by January 2023, former Puma CEO Bjørn Gulden will become Adidas’ new CEO! So what does that change in leadership means in terms of sneakers? Seems like we gotta wait and see.
So What If Adidas Sells Yeezys?
Here’s where stuff gets a bit tricky. The fake Yeezy market is already booming with websites selling fakes shamelessly. But now that the branding is gone, it’s gonna be even easier to fake a pair of Yeezys and call it a day! So if you’ve got a pair of Yeezys in your closet, better hold on to it like there’s no tomorrow. And when that happens, having a few pairs of Yeezys on hand could be profitable. You can see how Yeezy’s resale value could change over time!
We’re definitely waiting to see what Adidas will call the line. But at the same time, everyone is thinking about how the kicks could flood the market and nobody would know which is which! You know, the Yeezy branding was never visible unless you inspect the insole of the shoe. So if you don’t wanna take the risk, why not check 2023’s sneaker trends and choose your kicks accordingly?
