Adidas Fear of God – Are We Finally Getting New Kicks?

The sneaker industry is very competitive, with only the best sneaker collaborations making the cut. And though there are requirements to end up with hype kicks, sometimes a name could be more than enough. That’s how it’s apparently going with the Adidas Fear of God partnership. So what went down since they announced that collab? And will the brand with the three stripes ruin another good partnership like previous flops like Ivy Park? Let’s take a look at everything we know so far!

Who Is Jerry Lorenzo?

Before we get into Adidas Fear of God, we need to take a look at the brains behind the brand. Jerry Lorenzo is an American fashion and sneaker designer. He started out small with an idea and a big dream. Soon, the guy grew his network and reached people like Virgil Abloh and Kanye West. In fact, Kanye was so impressed by his work that he took him on for Yeezy Season 1. During that season, he helped design the OG Adidas Yeezy 750!

But besides all the “side quests”, Lorenzo founded his brand Fear of God in 2013! The brand represents his faith and practicality at the same time. According to him, FOG isn’t a “Christian” brand, but it represents everything he likes! You can read more about that here. Anyway, after its launch, the brand grew and became pretty famous. It grew enough that it drew the attention of the Swoosh!

A Little Nike FoG History

A pitstop at the Nike Fear of God collab is a must if you wanna stay in the loop. In fact, we can’t really ignore the successful run that Lorenzo had with Nike! The collaboration between the two brands started back in 2018 and lasted for two years. According to a leaked conversation with the designer, he seems to have left for the same reasons Kanye did! He had a certain vision for the collab that Nike didn’t share with him. And also, the royalties weren’t apparently enough to keep him.

Let’s check out the top 5 Nike FoG sneakers that we still dig today! Although their retail price is kinda high, they’re still pretty profitable if you managed to catch them. And if you’re looking for more affordable options, Nike and Lorenzo have a couple of alternatives. There’s the Air Fear of God Moc, Air Fear of God Raid, and the Nike FoG Skylon 2 retro.

Adidas Fear of God – A New Chapter in the FoG Story

2020

Apparently, Adidas had more to offer than Nike… so far. Back in 2020, we got the announcement of the collab that will push FoG’s third pillar: athletics. The first two pillars are Luxury and Essentials which are pretty successful! In other words, Lorenzo is taking the helm at Adidas’ basketball division. Moreover, he spoke of reshaping the sportswear industry through the Adidas Fear of God partnership.

2021

Lorenzo gave the industry a teaser look at what the partnership could look like in 2021. He showed up at the front row of the Lakers vs Suns game rocking a yellow hoodie. That hoodie featured FoG and Adidas co-branding in blue. It dropped at Shanghai’s Innsersect festival in January 2022. Sadly, we never got anything else since then, and it’s been a year already!

2022

Prior to 2022, the main focus of the partnership was the basketball division. According to Lorenzo “Adidas and Fear of God share the same dream for the future of basketball on and beyond the court”. However, in 2022, we received talk about a new direction for the partnership. Although we will still get basketball products, it won’t be the only focus. Is that a cute way to say that we’re gonna get lifestyle apparel?

2023

Finally, after much waiting, Match 2023 rolled around with a leak of a sample Adidas Fear of God shoe. And let’s hope it stays like that because it was pretty anticlimactic. In fact, some are saying that these are a ripoff of the Nike FoG kicks, so there’s that. Luckily, Jerry Lorenzo came out and gave a statement in which he shut down the leaks. Not only that, but he also said that Adidas Fear of God performance kicks and ready-to-wear collections will be officially unveiled on April 19. Mark your calendars, because the FoG 8th collection is coming that day during the Hollywood Bowl!

Wanna Get Ready for Adidas Fear of God?

Now that you know for a fact that the Adidas Fear of God partnership is actually for real, you should prepare. Who knows? That partnership could be Adidas’ saving grace and the kicks will actually be dope. And if that’s the case, you’ll definitely wanna up your sneaker copping game. The only solution to come out with a W though is to get a sneaker bot! But don’t go digging too deep, because NSB3 has your back with all the hot updates. If you wanna know more about all the new upgrades, check this out! Godspeed
