If we know anything about A Ma Maniere as a brand, it’s that they chase stories, not hype. But what if the collab they’re doing is a healthy mix of hype and story? Well, then, we’ve got a keeper on our hands! So in 2022, AMM is digging through the archives and bringing an amazing silhouette back from the dark. So with the new A Ma Maniere Air Ship, they’re saying: Everything done in the dark’s gonna come back to light.

Nike… or Jordan Air Ship?

So here’s an interesting tidbit! The Air Ship was originally a Nike product, and it’s actually the Jordan before Jordans. However, that wasn’t the tale that Nike told us. But then again, kudos to them for finding a hot marketing strategy to sell them Js. Anyway, it took them years and years to finally give the fans the straight story. That Michael Jordan’s shoes with the ban on them were actually the Nike Air Ships!

In 2014 Jordan Brand tweeted a picture of the Air Ships, but we still didn’t get a retro until 2020. The New Beginnings pack certainly played a number on our hearts and pockets! A Ma Maniere Air Ship – Back to the 80s?

Now we’re gonna talk some details about the new A Ma Maniere Air Ship. But is it really new? If you’re not very deep in the sneaker rabbit hole, you’ll wanna know your history! Back in 1984, Nike dropped Air Ships for retail in the Game Royal colorway. And obviously, these babies never got a retro so far. However, back in 2020, a pair of the OG blue and white Air Ships sold for $15,000 at a Sotheby’s auction! And believe it or not, the new 2022 collab feels like a retro of sorts.

Breaking Down the Differences

At first glance, you’ll feel like you’re looking at the OG 1984 Nike Air Ship Game Royal. However, when you go into the details, you’ll notice a couple of differences. First off, we obviously have the A Ma Maniere branding on the tongue of the 2022 pair. Second, the Nike branding on the midsole is not making a comeback. And finally, the collar of the 1984 pair is higher than the 2022 collab! If these differences aren’t a put-off for you, then why not go for a pair?
