Ahhh we love it when the sneaker industry feels like we’re still in the mid-2000s! You know, when in-store drops were all the rage with people camping out for days for a pair of kicks. And well, history repeated itself with a release that got shut down because of all the chaos. The sneakers in question? Oregon’s own Nike What the Duck Dunks! So, let’s check out these babies and how you can get them when they drop, shall we?
Nike What the Dunk Dunks – An Ode to Oregon!
On September 23, 2024, Flight Club and GOAT announced that they will drop two Oregon-themed Nike Dunks. And the theme they opted for was the iconic ‘What The’ design that merges several famous colorways in one. Nike has given us multiple ‘What The’ Dunks before, and each was a must-have. This time, the mismatched kicks took inspiration from previous jersey designs that the Oregon Ducks wore. And to take it further, the colorways are dubbed ‘Home’ and ‘Away’, with matching jersey colors. Now, of course, a drop like this never happens on a big scale, which makes the kicks even more desirable!
Before we go further into our news, you should know the release details. The Nike What the Duck Dunks will drop on GOAT on October 11, 2024, for $275 each. While the price tag is steeper than usual, it’s definitely worth it. You see, the Home pair is currently worth about $812 in resale. And the Away pair goes for an average of $788 on the aftermarket! If that doesn’t scream sneaker resale, we don’t know what does. Now, let’s move on to the chaos that ensued at Flight Club New York!
Flight Club Postpones the Drop Amid Chaos Pre-Drop
Did you think that a drop like this would happen at a physical store without a bit of excitement? Well, think again because Flight Club just postponed their October 5 in-store release due to chaos! You see, just like in the good ol’ sneaker days, people started camping out to wait for the drop. And well, the NYPD ended up showing up, with Flight Club later announcing that the drop would be postponed. In their own words, Flight Club said: “Flight Club New York’s release of the Dunk Low ‘What the Duck’ has been canceled for today. We will notify our community once it has been rescheduled.”
Mind you, the release went pretty smoothly at other Flight Club branches. Of course, this decision didn’t sit well with many sneakerheads. Some of them went on to blame resellers for all the chaos that happened. However, other people claimed that fake wristbands were sold, which tricked them into earning a spot in the queue. So all in all, it was a pretty messy thing where people wished the release happened as a raffle. For now, New Yorkers will have to wait for Flight Club to set a release date again. You can keep an eye out for updates on our blog too. Godspeed!
