There’s nothing cooler than healthy rivalry between brands, especially when it comes to marketing! And today’s discussion is nothing short of interesting. Why? Because the Reebok Nike rivalry is back to the surface through a simple campaign! Don’t worry, we’re gonna check out all the tea right now. So, here’s the story of how Reebok threw shade at Nike and a little rivalry history! Let’s dive into the story, shall we? But before we do, it’s never a bad idea to check out all the legal drama the Swoosh went through!
Reebok’s Latest Ad Is Effortlessly Petty… and We Like It!
If you’re a Crossfitter, you know that Reebok and Nike have a solid rivalry going on. You see, the Reebok Nano and Nike Metcon lines go head-to-head among fans as the best CrossFit shoes. However, it has been common knowledge that the Reebok Nano line offers a wider range of uses. For example, Metcons are pretty hard to run in while the Nanos are pretty comfortable. So, by default, that makes these babies the better workout shoes. And it’s safe to say that Reebok capitalized on that fact!
You see, Reebok unveiled the new Nano X4 (their 14th edition of the kicks), through a pretty interesting ad! In that video, you can simply see the kicks, and then unnecessary yet funny additions on it appear. And while at first glance it doesn’t make sense, that’s a rather smart dig at their competitor’s shoe! As we already mentioned, Nike Metcons are good kicks for weightlifting and have great stability but they lack a bit when it comes to running and jumping. And obviously, Reebok took a stab at that and at the “extras” that Metcons have.
The Nike Reebok Rivalry Ain’t Really New…
Yep, it really isn’t the result of one product rivalry. In fact, the competition between the two brands dates back to the 80s! Back in the 1980s, Reebok was the shoe brand to go for instead of Adidas and Nike. After all, we still love the Club C 85! And let’s not forget that the brand had a pretty impressive lineup of stars before Nike. However, that was all about to change with Nike signing Michael Jordan! And while Nike overtook Reebok, and Adidas took in the brand and then broke up, Reebok still persisted.
So, that leaves the question: will Reebok jump back into the competition after throwing all that shade? Well, we gotta see how things pan out, just like everything in the sneaker industry. However, if you’re looking to do some shopping, Jordan Brand is certainly working its magic in 2024! You can check out their spring lineup right here. And just as a heads up, you might wanna check out sneaker botting if you wanna buy any of these babies. Godspeed!
