The sneaker industry was never gonna be the same after the Adidas Kanye breakup. After all, the Yeezy line certainly left its mark on it. However, the brand with the three stripes came out and announced that Yeezys are back! And well, they were for two very interesting waves of releases and restocks. However, nothing good ever lasts, and Yeezys are not coming back. What did Adidas have to say about this? And how much money did Adidas and Ye make out of these drops? Let’s find out together everything related to Yeezys and discuss things a little further!
The Yeezy ABCs – Arguments, Breakup, Comeback, and Drama!
Kanye West has always been a controversial figure, and it remains a mystery to everyone how he went so long without getting canceled. But oh well, even the luckiest of them celebrities can’t escape the mess they create sometimes. And when it comes to anti-semitism and hate speech, people aren’t too forgiving… or are they? Anyway, Kanye went that far and lost all of his partnerships in the process, including the Adidas deal.
Now, a decision like this comes with some aftermath, and that’s not always fun. In the case of the Yeezy breakup, Adidas was gonna sustain a lot of losses. So, the wisest decision there was to sell the remaining Yeezys! But now that the May and August waves already happened, what will the future hold for Yeezys?
No More Yeezys… Indefinitely?
After all the events that unfolded in a relatively short period of time, sneakerheads wanted answers. Will Adidas release Yeezyless Yeezys? Or will they scrap the silhouettes because they already “copied” them according to Ye? Now, when asked about this during the 2023 Q2 roundup, the Adidas execs had the following answer: “No plans of taking Yeezy designs and transferring them to Adi. Yes, legally we could, but I think that would be the wrong timing.” This reply comes after the Adidas CFO announced in November 2022 that they have the right to the silhouettes and intend to use those rights in 2023.
Now, when it comes to the industry after the end of Yeezys, there’s a lot to unpack here. You see, the sneaker industry won’t be the same after Yeezys. It was Adidas’ best partnership, and with it gone, Adidas collabs won’t be much. But we’re not gonna be all negative talk, because who knows? The three stripes could land a partnership that would change the course of the industry, and we totally hope so. That ought to keep stuff interesting!
How Much Did Adidas and Ye Make from the 2023 Yeezy Wave?
So, we don’t have the financial details of the latest August release yet. However, it’s safe to assume that it racked up a hefty amount of revenue. I mean, we got the May Yeezy wave to back that claim up. You see, in May, 4 million Yeezy orders brought in a whopping $437 million in profit for Adidas in total! And as per their contract, Kanye gets 15% of the profit, which translates to roughly $85 million.
Now, the sneaker industry got the second wave of the Yeezys, and we expect to see similar numbers. But that’s probably not the last time we’ll hear about Yeezysm because more is on the way. How many pairs are remaining is the right question here. What we’re getting at is that you’ll need to get yourself a sneaker bot that supports Adidas Confirmed. Who knows? The next time might be the last time we ever get a pair of Yeezys for retail. Click here if you wanna know what the best bots for you are! Godspeed.
