Sneaker collaborations can take it to both extremes. For example, some just go all out and leave nothing to the imagination. But for others, you can barely tell the difference between them and the original silhouette. And apparently, the latter is gonna be the vibe for 2024. From the Fragment AF1 to the upcoming 1017 ALYX 9SM Air Force 1, basic is definitely the keyword here. So, let’s check these babies out and see why you’d wanna buy them over the classic white AF1, shall we?
No, it’s not another one of Elon Musk’s kids, but close. It’s a brand and the brainchild of designer Matthew Williams, and the name comes from his daughter’s name: Alyx. Now, the brand, which launched in 2015, is pretty simple yet luxurious. It certainly has a high-end feel to it, especially with the high-quality materials and minimalistic design. In addition to the brand, Matthew Williams has his own impressive portfolio as Givenchy’s creative director. That’s not all though, because he launched his career by working with Kanye West, Lady Gaga, and more. So, just like Virgil Abloh, he helped introduce streetwear to high-end brands!
So, after this brief introduction, it’s time to take a look at the 1017 ALYX 9SM Air Force 1 collab. First off, we’ll get two colorways which are, surprise surprise, black and white. Design-wise, the kicks look almost exactly like the original Air Force 1s. However, the front and side panels merge into one in this collab. In addition to that, the lace dubrae features ALYX branding while the uppermost eyelets feature metal caps. Finally, the side of the heel area has a 1017 ALYX 9SM print on it. So all in all, saying that the kicks are simple is an understatement.
Both 1017 ALYX 9SM Air Force 1 colorways will drop on December 15, 2023, on Nike SNKRS, and will retail for $155. But they’ll also drop on December 7, 2023, on the Alyx website. And well, if these babies are as exclusive as they look, they’ll be worth your while in resale. But how can you score them on drop day without dividing your attention between the Alyx site and Nike SNKRS?
